NEW (updated 5/12/08) Legistlation has recently been introduced in both the Michigan House and Senate to create the option of an income tax check-off for United Ways directed toward basic needs in each community. The legislation was introduced with bi-partisan sponsorship by Representatives Jeff Mayes (D-Bay City) and Rick Jones (R-Grand Ledge) and have been given the bill numbers HB 6025 & HB 6026. Identical legislation was introduced in the Senate by Senator Michael Switalski (D-Roseville) and given the bill number SB 1287.
