Weekly Wrap Up: December 5, 2014

The United Way of Isabella County recently kicked off their Festival of Trees Competition in Mount Pleasant! Businesses participate by decorating trees for individuals to bid on. All proceeds go to the United Way's Adopt a Family Holiday Wishes Program. Check out this great video on the event here

The United Way for Southeastern Michigan and THAW received $10M from DTE Energy to help keep Michigan families warm. The donation will be split in half, with United Way receiving $5M of the funds. "United Way salutes DTE Energy for this generous donation because we recognize that these dollars will make a real difference in the lives of area families who would otherwise struggle to stay warm this winter," said United Way President and CEO Michael J. Heart of West Michigan United Way and the city of Grand Rapids are teaming up to increase the number residents claiming federal tax credits. Volunteers through the tax credit coalition provide free income tax preparation and free e-filing of income tax returns for people with income of $55,000 or less. People who earn up to $52,427 per year may be eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit, depending on the size of their family. Read more about the partnership here
