1.5 MILLION Michigan HOUSEHOLDS STRUGGLE TO AFFORD THE BASIC NECESSITIES.

The ALICE Project reveals the previously untold story of the magnitude of financial hardship in Michigan.

38% of Michigan families struggle to afford the basics of housing, HOUSING, CHILD CARE, FOOD, TECHNOLOGY, HEALTH CARE AND TRANSPORTATION.

Standing for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed - ALICE represents those in our communities who are working yet still struggle to make ends meet. The ALICE Report is the most comprehensive depiction of need in Michigan to date. In the five years since Michigan United Ways released the first Michigan ALICE Report, Michigan residents have started to get a clearer picture of their neighbors, loved ones, friends, and acquaintances than ever before.

The REsearch

  • The ALICE in Focus Research Series takes this data to a new level, spotlighting the struggles of Michigan’s children living in financial hardship.
